Don’t tell me you missed me..

23 Jan

Ok, the angry e-mails and letters can stop already, I’m back. Just kidding, but if you think that I really AM that popular:

a.) You severely overestimate me.
b.) I want to be your friend.

Today’s outfit looks like a print monster threw up on me. I wanted to see how many prints I could pack into one outfit before being contacted by the authorities. The stripes, gingham, herringbone, leopard, and whatever print you want to call this debaucle of a hair color that I have going on right now, seems to have married quite well, in my opinion. The herringbone print of the vest is really tiny, so it lets the stripes and gingham play nicely together, without overwhelming the whole look. And a leopard print is ALWAYS invited to my outfit party! I don’t care what you say, leopard is a neutral!! I added the neutral tights to winterize the whole thing. The necklace was just thrown in to add some color, although I think I could have gotten away with not adding a splash of color, since the mixing of prints is visually interesting enough on its own. What do you guys think? How many prints are TOO MANY prints? Have a great day, and thanks for reading!

Charlie Chaplin in denim on denim..

9 May

Hello, my friends! Is it any surprise that today’s post is menswear inspired? I love looking dapper. If I could get by with walking with a cane and a monocle, I probably would. Since denim on top AND bottom (a.k.a. “Canadian Tuxedo”) can look tacky very easily (think that horrendous  matching denim dress and tuxedo combo that our friends Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears rocked for the 2001 American Music Awards), there are a couple of simple rules to help you pull off this look in a chic way. First, you should keep the two denim pieces in the same color family but different shades. The bigger the contrast between shades, the better. Mixing distressed pieces with more streamline or “new” looking pieces is another great way to make this look more fresh and modern.

And the award goes to…

8 May

Hey-o friends! My lovely blogmate, Sandpaper Kisses —>http://sandpaperkissesblog.wordpress.com/ nominated me for the Liebster Blog Award! So, thank you, thank you! I’m honored that anybody would even READ my blog, much less nominate it for anything! Here’s how it works (I think)

Rules:

1. Post eleven facts about yourself

2. Answer the questions posed by your nominator

3. Pass the award on to eleven new recipients

4. Pose eleven new questions to your bloggers.

Then post the Liebster Award Badge to your blog, notify your nominees, and link them to the post <—not gonna lie, I’m not sure how to do 2/3 of that stuff but i’ll figure it out eventually 🙂

Eleven Facts About Me

1. I have been married to my best friend, Joey,  for 5 years and I’m a mommy of 1 sweet little girl, Scarlett 🙂

2. I have this REALLY wierd habit of smelling stuff. Like, I will literally smell anything. And, even if it smells like crap, i’ll usually smell it one more time, just to make sure.  It’s pretty disgusting.

3. I am addicted to Duck Dynasty, TrueBlood, Essie nail polish, and Natural Ice chap stick.

4. I have a girl crush on Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Kristen Wiig, and Demi Lovato.

5. Even though I’ve had a child, I don’t like holding babies. Nobody wants to be known as the jerk who dropped somebody else’s kid.

6. I really dig mustaches and beards. On men, that is.

7. I have 2 pets. There’s the cat, but shes kind of a butthole, thats why we named her Bad Kitty. I also have a Longhaired Dachshund named Teddy, who loves to eat poop out of Bad Kitty’s litterbox and then come lick my husband in the face. He also thinks it’s funny to ONLY bark out of the blue while I’m putting on my mascara, and at 2:30 in the morning.

8. I have a pretty decent singing voice, but stagefright prevents me from sharing it.

9. I lost 80 lbs with Weight Watchers and have kept it off for three years.

10. I have a tattoo of a red bow on my right ankle, and I would like to have many, many more.

11. I brake for Broccoli.

11 Questions

1. What is your favorite pair of shoes?

It would be a toss up between my classic black Chuck Taylors and my nude heels. The converse in my opinion, will never go out of fashion and automatically add a notch of coolness to any outfit. The nude heels are just flattering. I swear they make me look taller, thinner, and they elongate my legs (not that I need it, I’m 80% leg, and my torso is like, half an inch long.).

2. What perfume/scent do you wear (if any)?

I feel naked without perfume. I’ve always had this irrational fear of being the stinky kid in class (remember, I smell everything)  so not a day goes by that I’m not wearing some sort of fragrance. My mother always wore perfume when I was little, so I just kind of grew up thinking thats the way it was supposed to be. My all time favorites are Eternal Grace, Falling in Love, and Love Sweet Love by Philosophy.

3. Do you like vintage or modern style? Explain.

I love to mix vintage and modern. I just love the idea of two opposites working together. Vintage with modern. Girly with menswear. Edgy with Classy. Preppy with rocker. My style pet peeve is being too “matchy matchy”, so when you mix opposites, you never run into that.

4. What is your favorite piece of furniture and why?

I love my huge comfy microfiber sectional, it’s the perfect napping device, and the only piece of furniture that I have that wasn’t either given to us or bought at a thrift store/garage sale.

5. Do you collect something?

Not really on purpose. I am an avid coffee lover, so it seems that I am always drawn to funny or unusual coffee mugs and I have quite a few. I also have a LOT of lipstick, but I wouldn’t consider it a collection, per se’.

6. Favorite Things? Least Favorite things?

Aside from brown paper packages tied up with string?

Favorites – laughing and making people laugh, thrifting, style, dancing, all things girly, music, dresses with pockets made into them, chocolate

Least Favorites – celery, waking up early, my oily skin

7. What is once piece of advice you’d like to give to your readers? It can be about anything.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. People are going to hate no matter what you do, so you may as well try what YOU want.

8. Thinking about how and when you grew up, where do you think your style inspiration came from?

I was a very sheltered child, and my mom basically dressed me until I was, like 14. She was an older mom, and she dressed me like an older, more conservative mom would. Maybe that’s why I love old lady style now. I love stuff that looks like it was pulled straight from grandma’s closet and mixing it with newer, more trendy things.

9. If you could do anything crazy for 1 day and be assured that nothing harmful could happen, what would it be?

Probably just go all Wynona Rider at the mall and go on a stealing spree 🙂

10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? in 10 years?

Who’s to say? Wherever the Good Lord wants me.

11. What is your best asset? could be physical or not.

My favorite assets are, my sense of humor, my hair, my butt, and my teeth. Thanks, Mom for the curvy genes, and thanks Dad for the braces!

Same questions for all who are tagged!

Look who’s back..

8 May

Hey, remember me? Of course you do! I haven’t posted in a coon’s age (blame that saying on my ridiculously southern raising) We had a loss in our family, but I’m ready to get back in the swing of things. My friend and up-and-coming photographer,  Christi of Crystal Creations,  was nice enough to take some cool (and, non-bathroom selfie) photos for me. She even hooked me up with some funky digital backgrounds. I’m so happy to get back into the swing of things. I thoroughly enjoy posting and sharing my thrift finds with everybody! Today’s post is a little on the fall/winter side of things, but that’s actually when the photos were taken.  I’ll be posting some of these and some more in season pictures, too.

Okay, so she’s got a ‘tude, but, hey, she comes by it naturally. But aside from my saucy side, stringy brown hair, and love of lipstick, I also passed down to my baby girl the love of menswear inspired fashion. I love to see little girls in boys clothes. It just makes me giddy inside! The vintage letterman’ish cardigan was thrifted from Goodwill. The white tee and jeans were both part of a clothing lot that I purchased on ebay. The Chuck Taylors were new when I got them, but she wears them almost every day. It’s hard to find shoes and clothes that she doesn’t completely demolish on the gravel playground at her pre-school. Converse are some of the few that I’ve found that hold up until she outgrows them, so I always repurchase them when she has a growth spurt. Plus they are adorable and she gets the satisfaction of “tying her shoes” when she velcros them herself. The bandana was purchased at Wal-Mart. And, I know, the peter pan collar type necklace is somewhat impractical and she won’t wear it to school, but I had to do it. What about you? How do you style your babies?
