Heather Grahamed

29 Jan

Good Evening, all! My daughter and I watched Judy Moody and the not so Bummer Summer last night, and I got this warm fuzzy feeling in me. We all know that feeling….diarrhea. Just kidding, but I did get hit with style inspiration!  Heather Graham has such a free-spirited, hippie’ish style and I wanted to recreate that, so I dug through my closet and this is what I came up with. I really liked how it all came together! Oh, and you’re not crazy,  my hair didn’t grow 10 inches last night, I have been experimenting with wigs for the past few months and I’m hooked! I’ve been really enjoying this one, which is full lace and human hair, so it can be styled just like your own (and in my case, better than my own).  I styled it with big waves and flat ironed all the ends, to give it that beachy, tousled look. I’ve gotten lots of compliments on it, and it’s made so well, that most people don’t even know it’s a wig until I tell them. So, who have you been inspired by style-wise lately?

Black and White and Coral all over….my lips

22 May

Hi all! Well, I did it again on this lovely hump day. I mixed patterns. I just can’t stop myself…I love it when opposite prints work in harmony. Makes me wanna say “YEAH! SHOVE IT, FASHION RULES, I’M A REBEL, YO!” (Just had to add this random bit..my husband just looked at me and said , “You blogging”? Are you Kenny Bloggins”?..He thinks he’s funny..)

I added some pops of color with the skinny green belt and coral lipstick, so I wouldn’t be swimming in a sea of black and white. Hope you guys liked todays look! Have a great evening, and I hope all of your wildest dreams come true…

Beauty Steal Alert! Wet N’ Wild!

21 May

Hi everybody! I can’t wait to share my most recent beauty bargain with you guys! Nail polishes are one of my favorite beauty items second only to lipstick, but it is so hard to find affordable nail polish that doesn’t chip within 3 hours of drying. It’s so frustrating! It makes me wanna tie somebody naked to a chair and burn them with lit cigarettes! Just kidding, sort of. That’s why I almost pooped my pants when I saw these new Wet N’ Wild Megalast nail polishes at my local Dollar General for, wait for it, TWO DOLLARS a piece! Now usually, Essie is the only thing that touches my nails due to it’s wonderful staying power and blinding shine, but at $8.00 a bottle, it can get kind of steep. So I decided what the heck, the Wet N’ Wild eyeshadows are the bomb.com (that’s another post all on it’s own)so for two dollars, what can it hurt? Good news! They’re awesome! The pigmentation and color payoff are awesome! I applied two coats of the pink sparkly one on Friday night and I have had only one tiny chip since then. Granted, I did buff out my nails, use a base coat, and use my Essie Good to Go top coat, but those are steps that we all should be doing anyway. I only got three for right now, but next time I go to the Dollar Store, I will DEFINATELY  be picking up more. If you get a chance to pick these up, go for it. I know they carry Wet N’ Wild at CVS and Walgreens, along with some Wal-Marts and at Ulta, as well as several places online.

Have you found any to die for  affordable beauty items lately? Please let me know and tell me all about them!

The colors from left to right are Sweet Tooth, Lean and Green, and Punch It Up. (the pictures don’t do them justice, especially the green, it’s a true emerald color)

Eazy E..

20 May

Hi everybody!! Nothing too complicated today. It’s Monday and I wanted something EAZY. This button up dress took absolutely no brain power this morning. Just used the reversible sash that came with it to cinch the waist for more definition and some gold accessories and DONE. I love pieces like this that are just kind of an outfit in itself, so you can just grab and go. Wish there was a quick fix for those roots…eep! Have an awesome day!

Show your stripes..and your spots..

14 May

Hey guys! I tried my hand at mixing stripes today, and I have to say, I’m diggin’ it. It’s nothing major, I figured I would start with something small like a scarf (that I could take off later if I decided I didn’t like it) and work my way up from there. But this may just be one of my favorite looks so far! (insert Napoleon Dynamite style “yessssssss” here). It’s also super practical. Skirts and dresses with pockets touch a place in my heart like only few things can. Have you tried the mixing stripes trend yet? Did you start off small, or go balls to the wall?

Hi fellow thrift lovers! Not too much to say about today’s post. I was feeling a little uninspired and if I could have spent the day in my sweatpants, I sooo would have, but I threw this together instead. Not overly cray cray, not especially creative, but it got the job done. I thrifted this dress several years ago, and I love it because it’s super versatile, roomy,  and comfy. Great for…say…..Mondays after a food binge weekend (but that breakfast buffet was to die for)  Good for when you don’t feel like sucking in all day. I guess this is my “lazy” dress. What about you? Do you have any fake-out lazy clothes?

Get yo do’ dipped and yo’ flip whipped

29 Jan

I’ve been growing my hair for about 3 years from a pixie cut, and what a long road it has been! It’s getting close to armpit length and, although long hair looks uber-glam from far away, dealing with it on a day-to-day basis is not all its cracked up to be. More shampoo and conditioner, longer drying time, and longer styling time are a few long hair woes that this lil NON-morning person has a hard time dealing with! So i’m thinking about going with this cute long inverted bob, minus the chunk of purple (or blue, I can’t tell). I’m also thinking about adding some blonde or caramel ombre highlights on the front tips.

HURR

So, what does this have to do with thrifty outfits, you may be asking? As a matter of fact, your hairstyle can be the make or break factor of most outfits, especially the unique finds you purchase at thrift stores. There is a fine line between wearing a supercool outfit with a vintage vibe, and looking like you got caught in a very unfortunate time warp accident. One of the main factors to make a vintage or thrifted piece look modern and cool is a modern or, depending how brave you are, trendy, hairstyle to pull it all together, wether it’s long, short, or inbetween. How about you? Do you mind dealing with the extra work of having long, sexy,  luxurious locks, or do you prefer the no muss, no fuss,  “less sexy-more spunky”  route of short hair? How has a different or fresh haircut worked for you in your style situation?
